When the home of a group of old ladies who are descendants of the legendary pirate Blackbeard (Peter Ustinov) is threatened with being repossessed, they receive unwitting help from Steve Walker (Dean Jones) and Jo Anne Baker (Suzanne Pleshette) when Steve reads an ancient scroll that brings the ghost of the pirate back from the dead. It turns out that Blackbeard's spirit has been cursed to stay on Earth until he does something noble to make up for his days of piracy, and this this gives him a chance to finally be free.
