Lucas (Nick Nolte) has just been released from prison where he has been serving a sentence for bank robbery. As he starts his new life of freedom he realizes that he needs a checking account. He goes to the nearby bank to open his account and is caught up in yet another bank robbery. Ned (Martin Short) doesn’t have a clue what he is doing and as a result he ends up taking Lucas as a hostage. Because of his past, the authorities assume that Ned and Luke are in on the heist together. As they escape, Lucas realizes that Ned has resorted to robbery because he needs to send his young daughter Meg (Sarah Rowland Doroff) to a special school to help her overcome her muteness. The three are an unlikely group and only time will tell if they are able to outwit the police.
