The last in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies is director Wes Craven's attempt to make the story over into a 'real' setting. The film takes place on the set of a new Nightmare movie, where Heather Langenkamp, who originally played Nancy Thompson in previous incarnations of the series, plays herself. On the set of the movie things are getting a little out of hand, and she is worried by several dreams that she has been having that involve herself and her family, husband Chase (David Newsom) and son Dylan (Miko Hughes). When she goes to Wes Craven (who plays himself) he tells her that he can't help as he knows little more than what he dreams about the scenes that he writes. Eventually the mother and son must confront Freddy (Robert Englund) on his own turf in order to survive the ordeal.
